Realizing that you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or queer can be a big deal in your life. You might experience hardship, joy, relief, fear, loneliness, sadness, guilt, shame, pride and belonging -- and that is just a short list!
All of this is pretty normal. But, neither you nor your family should try to go through it alone. Find a support group or counselor or a safe friend or teacher. If you are out to your family, refer them to PFLAG.
For more information about my private practice, you can see my website at www.jaymepeta.com.
I offer free consultation. If you need a kind of therapy that I don't offer, I will work with you to try to find someone that is a good fit.
Remember no matter what group or counselor you go to, or what friend you have, being LGBTQ is not an illness and you are not a bad person. If you find yourself feeling pressured to do something that makes you uncomfortable in order to fit in or be friends with someone, stop and talk to a trusted friend or family member.
